QA Engineer

Job Summary:
The QA Engineer assists with the full software development process.  They support the various dev teams with testing, deploying, and maintaining of the software used for the company.

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

  • Quickly learn and build upon existing products and technologies
  • Develop and implement testing strategies
  • Create documentation for work done
  • Create estimates of development tasks
  • Use analytic skills to deal with requirements and/or issues that may be loosely defined and the ability to further manipulate and expand on them.

Skills & Specifications:

  • At least 5 years experience in related field
  • Knowledge of QA testing methodologies, including unit testing, integration testing and performance testing
  • Understanding of Linux (ideally: Ubuntu)
  • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar technologies
  • Understanding of networking and HTTP; experience testing APIs
  • Selenium browser automation (or equivalent)
  • Experience with scripting tools; i.e., Perl, Ruby, Shell
  • Understanding of the software development life cycle
  • Understanding of git
  • Ability to write MySQL queries
  • Ability to create test cases
  • Ability to work with defined test plans
  • Solid troubleshooting skills
  • The ability to differentiate between a bug and an improvement
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and well-structured bug reports

Desired Experience

  • An understanding of Agile software development principals such as Scrum, Continuous Integration, and test-driven development
  • Continuous integration (e.g. Jenkins)
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline from an accredited university or institution
  • Familiarity with AWS
  • Experience in the online media industry
  • Change Management
  • Understanding of server provisioning (e.g. Chef)
  • Understanding of browser-based applications, including HTML/CSS, JavaScript
  • Detail oriented with excellent written and verbal communication
  • Collaborative interpersonal skills to work effectively with various departments and company leadership
